The ABI remained above 50 (neutral) in June 2018 at 51.3 points. Most of the regions and sectors remained above 50, with South and Residential Sector in the lead.
In July 2018, the HMI stayed at 68 with mixed performance in the Current, Future and Traffic components of the index.
Construction Update
In June 2018, housing permits reflected an annual rate of 1.28M, a 3.0% decrease from its year-ago rate with Single Family showing yearly increases.
Housing starts in June 2018 were 4.2% below their year-ago rate. Single Family was down annually by 0.2% at 858K starts and Multi-Family was down 13.7% at 315K starts.
The Dodge Momentum Index (DMI) reached 165.5 in June 2018, 0.8% above revised May score of 164.2 and 18.6% above its year ago score.
Economic Update
In June 2018, construction final demand prices and construction industry goods saw a growth of 4.1% and 9.6%, respectively, from its year-ago value.
CPI-U, which measures inflation, increased by 0.1% in June 2018, following 0.2% in May.
