The Importance of Mobile Plant Safety
Mobile plants range from large portable equipment such as crushers, concrete batch plants or screening operations down to company pickup trucks. They can be defined as any piece of equipment under the control of an operation and capable of self-propulsion.
Of 4,836 workplace fatalities reported in 2015 by the U.S. Department of Labor, 2,054 were directly related to mobile equipment.
There are 6 key areas of mobile plant operation:
- Site Design and Traffic Control
- Vehicle/Pedestrian Segregation
- Mobile Equipment Inspection
- Quality Operator Training
- Proper Load Securement
- "Reverse" Protective Systems
