To keep pace with rapid growth in central Pasco County, Florida, Pasco-Hernando Community College added a fifth campus. As the project began, the Building Solutions team at CRH reached out to the college’s general contractor, Skanska, to identify opportunities that could keep the project on schedule and reduce risk for all involved. The Building Solutions team works closely with general contractors to understand their needs and connect them to the wealth of products and product experts within CRH.
Glenn Northey, Executive Vice President of Building Solutions, served as Skanska’s primary point of contact for design support, recommendations, and product options for nearly every part of the job.
ADDING VALUE – INSIDE AND OUT
Skanska engaged CRH for help in the site work, envelope, interior and exterior phases of construction. CRH technical expertise played a key role in identifying an exterior glass solution that provided the necessary thermal performance while still matching the owner’s desired aesthetics. In addition, masonry product experts recommended an alternative paver design for the project’s exterior patio, simplifying the installation process and providing a durable solution. Finally, CRH provided logistical support to help overcome roadblocks with procurement of a custom color brick, coordinating a plan to ship it via rail and store it until the contractor was ready for it.
FEWER PHONE CALLS, HIGHER QUALITY
Skanska engaged seven CRH product groups that were able to deliver design expertise, logistical support and subcontractor recommendations for all product areas. Skanska’s direct relationship with the Building Solutions team reduced phone calls and uncovered multiple opportunities to bring efficiency to the project without losing quality.
"With one phone call, Glenn put us in touch with contractors and a tremendous amount of information very quickly. The range of products and technical expertise that CRH provides helped us identify several opportunities for improvement on the project. As far as I’m concerned, it’s been a very successful relationship and hopefully we can do it again on future projects."
